Roller coasters are thrilling amusement rides for everyone who loves adventure. The height, speed, passenger capacity, turns, slopes, launching system, and rollbacks in the design make each roller coaster unique from others. Higher the speed and height, higher will be the excitement and fear. So, here we can explore more details on the fastest roller coaster in the world. Most of you will consider Kingda Ka at Six Flags as the fastest roller coaster in the world. Formula Rossa at Ferrari theme park has surpassed this record in 2010 with a speed of 240km/hr. Still, the tallest hydraulic launch roller coaster is Kingda Ka.
Formula Rossa at Ferrari World(largest indoor theme park), Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates is the fastest roller coaster in the world with a speed up to 240km/hr. It is necessary for the riders to wear safety goggles similar to what skydivers use to protect their eyes from bug strikes. I think now you must be able to imagine the scary speed of this ride.
The fastest roller coaster Formula Rossa is manufactured by the Intamin Company with the designer Jack Rouse Associates. The primary challenge for the designer was to provide maximum speed by ensuring the safety of riders. They have succeeded and at present, Formula Rossa is the fastest hydraulic launch roller coaster with sufficient safety mechanism.
Each train of Formula Rossa will carry 16 passengers in 4 cars. Each of the roller coaster cars will resemble Ferrari F1 racing car with the exact shade of Ferrari red paint. This 1 minute 32 seconds ride will be a mesmerizing experience that makes the rider feel like a race champion.

Formula Rossa Working
For launching, we have different technologies like linear induction magnets, catapult launch, pneumatic launch, and hydraulic launch. But, most of the popular rides like Kingda Ka and Formula Rossa always suggest hydraulic launching systems. Why so? The important reasons behind this are speed, reduced noise level, smooth ride, and safety. Linear induction magnets and catapult launch systems are suitable for smaller roller coasters having comparatively less height and speed. Few facts related to the working of Formula Rossa are discussed here.
The roller coaster Formula Rossa uses fluid power for its operation. That is, not only uses the power of hydraulics but also uses pneumatic energy for the working of this amusement ride.
A hydraulic motor is an important component that provides 150mph speed for the train in less than five seconds, producing an acceleration of 1.7G’s. In total, the system will contain 48 hydraulic motors and 10 hydraulic cylinders.
The hydraulic cylinder has two compartments(wet and dry), one filled with hydraulic fluid and other with nitrogen gas. The nitrogen gas present inside the dry compartment of the cylinder is pressurized to 290 bar using the hydraulic pump. When the nitrogen gas becomes pressurized, the valves will open and the hydraulic fluid is propelled to 48 motors. These motors will power the large drum and winch located under the train track. Then, the winch will pull the catch car by steel cables and provides high-speed riding experience.
