Heavy Equipment Operator: Excavator / Backhoe Operator

General Excavating is actively seeking a skilled and experienced Heavy Equipment Operator: Excavator / Backhoe Operator to join their dynamic team. This is an exciting opportunity for a dedicated professional who is passionate about maintaining and repairing a wide range of heavy-duty equipment used in environmental services. The successful candidate will play a vital role in ensuring our fleet operates at peak performance, contributing directly to the safety, efficiency, and sustainability of their operations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Assist with loading and unloading equipment and materials for daily assignments, ensuring work areas are properly secured
• Excavate trenches safely around new and existing utilities, following all safety protocols, often working closely with team members inside trenches.
• Use instruments such as lasers, grade rods, or transit levels to check and maintain proper slope and elevation.
• Ensure work accuracy by following grade stakes, material levels, hand signals, and other guidance indicators.
• Support the alignment and placement of pipes during the construction of water, stormwater, and sanitary sewer pipelines.
• Prepare trench bases by grading and leveling with tamping machines and hand tools.
• Connect and seal pipe joints using appropriate materials such as glue, cement, gaskets, or flanges.
• Perform excavation-related tasks, including backfilling, concrete or rock breaking using the correct equipment.
• Cover installed pipes with earth materials or aggregates using machinery and hand tools
• Conduct daily equipment inspections, including checking fluids and ensuring proper lubrication, to verify safe operation.
• Notify the foreman and maintenance team when equipment requires servicing or repair
