Hydraulic Working of Trenchers in Construction Industry

The construction industry includes various heavy-duty machinery, and trenchers are one among them that are used for quickly digging trenches. The trenchers are also known as trenching machines, and this is mainly preferred for applications like pipeline laying, cable laying, drainage purposes, etc. With a trencher machine, it is possible to penetrate the ground and break the earth’s rock and soil.

The available trencher types are chain trenchers, micro trenchers, portable trenchers, and wheeled trenchers. The chain trenchers are used to dig the hard ground, and the wheeled trenchers create access trenches for roads and cutting pavements. The booms or round metal frames of the chain trenchers will be covered using digging chains. The wheel trenchers also called rock wheels are mounted on rubber tires or tracks, and it contains a toothed metal for digging purpose. Micro trenchers are used to create narrow trenches in urban areas and portable trenchers to install landscape edges and irrigation lines.

Trenching was one of the most complicated and dangerous tasks in the old days. But, with the help of trenchers in construction sites, the overall process was made much faster and easier by minimizing the job site risks. Precision, versatility, safety, higher efficiency, lower cost, low pollution, minimum impact on the environment, and accuracy of the handled work are other key benefits of trenchers. The trencher can remove the soil with continuous movement. The width and depth of the hole can be adjusted based on the selected trencher attachment. The basic working of the chain trencher is discussed in this article and you can find how hydraulics is implemented in this heavy machinery.

The major components in the chain trencher are the digging chain, digging boom, auger with slinger, crumber boom, crumber shoe, side shift locking pin, hydraulic motor, chain tension adjustment, etc. In the chain trencher, the digging chain will run on the digging boom arm. One or two heavy-duty radial piston hydraulic motors are used in the trencher for controlling the speed of the digging chain. Also, the chain trencher design has included a drill to prevent the fall back of dug soil back into the trench. This soil will be raised using the high lift conveyor and then transported to trailers. The hydraulic kit will contain hoses, fittings, and couplers for transferring pressurized fluid to different hydraulic components.

TRENCHER HYDRAULICS WORKING

The trencher is actually an attachment connected to the construction machinery, and it contains an auxiliary hydraulic system for powering the trencher. The tilting, raising, or lowering of the entire trencher attachment is done using the hydraulic mechanism located on the construction machinery. The starting and stopping of the trencher are controlled by the auxiliary hydraulic control mechanism. Also, the auxiliary control system will control the speed of the trencher by adjusting the fluid flow through the circuit. Other hydraulic functions involved in the machinery are tilting, raising, or lowering the trencher attachment completely.

The crumber mechanism in the trench is used for grabbing and removing loose dirt in the trench. The crumber boom and crumber shoe are the major components, and this shoe will be mounted on the boom. The position of these mounted shoes can be changed using the fluid-powered motor attached to the linkage mechanism. Also, the automatic locking device will hold the crumber shoe in a working position.
