REPORTING:

1st Assistant Engineer, Chief Mechanic or 2nd Assistant Engineer (Topside), Mechanical Supervisor, Sr. Maintenance Supervisor

SUPERVISION:

None

Pre-Requisite/ Qualification:

  • High School Diploma (U.S.)/ Proof of Completion of Formal Education or Relevant Craft Certificate (where applicable)
  • Successful Military Discharge – Preferred for U.S.
  • Graduate of Trade School or University where knowledge and training acquired apply to job requirements – Preferred
  • Knowledge of technical calculations required for the safe operation of the drilling unit and basic computer skills
  • Valid medical examination and vaccination certificates
  • Norway Specific: Must hold qualifications by relevant authority requirements and the requirements of the Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSAN ref. Activities Regulations).

  • Full participation in emergency drills and response to emergencies as per assigned duties on the station bill.                 

OPERATIONAL DISCIPLINE REQUIREMENTS:

DUTIES:

  • The underlying expectation is that all duties are carried out in compliance with the Company's
  • Operational Discipline expectations and HSE requirements. When considering the assignment of duties for the Mechanic, the Supervisor, and the Mechanic will apply the rules of task planning (CAKES) to determine if the assigned role is appropriate. This means confirming that the individuals involved have the knowledge, skills, and experience to carry out the task, and the task plan complies with policy before they are authorized to proceed.                

GENERAL DUTIES:

Operations/Maintenance:

  • Carry out mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic installation, maintenance, and repair safely and prudently.
  • Perform daily inspections and maintenance on mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain and repair mechanical systems and equipment i.e. prime movers, air and water system, lubrication and fuel system, etc.
  • Troubleshoot and repair faulty mechanical, pneumatic, and hydraulic equipment and tools.
  • Assist in maintaining marine equipment, i.e. cranes, thrusters, ballast pumps and valves, auxiliary equipment, etc.
  • Identify and respond to abnormal operating conditions and/or patterns of equipment.
  • Carry out periodic maintenance according to the AIM (Asset & Inventory Management) guidelines and coordinate that maintenance with supervisors and other department heads.
  • Ensure that requirements concerning regulatory bodies are met in all cases of equipment repair and installation.
  • Comply with the permit to work and isolation system.
  • Maintain service reports and advised supervisor on the condition of equipment and spare parts requirements.
  • Perform machine work with a lathe, drill press, grinding, and surfacing equipment.
    Install, operate, maintain, and repair additional or temporary mechanical equipment used for special operations.
  • Assist in implementing outstanding recommendations from equipment audits, as issued by Clients, Regulatory Authorities, or rig management.
  • Assist in ensuring that all third-party equipment is fit for purpose, certified, correctly installed, and maintained while on the rig.
  • Inform the supervisor and other department heads of any technical problems or limitations that may affect the safe operation of the rig.
  • Maintain an adequate supply of spares to fulfill maintenance requirements and facilitate a safe and efficient operation.
  • Ensure that service, maintenance, and other operational reports are accurate and complete.
