REPORTS TO: Fabrication Operations Manager

DEPARTMENT / JOB: Fabrication – Machine – Hydraulic

JOB SUMMARY: Layout, fabricate, position, assemble, and fit parts of metal products and machinery.

TYPICAL DUTIES:

Position, align, fit, and potentially weld parts to form complete units or subunits, following blueprints and layout specifications, and using jigs, welding torches, and hand tools.
Assign workers to specific duties.
Verify conformance of workpieces to specifications, using squares, rulers, calipers, tape, and other measuring devices.
May tack-weld fitted parts together.
Lay out and examine metal stock or work pieces to be processed to ensure specifications are met.
Align and fit parts according to specifications, using jacks, turnbuckles, wedges, drift pins, pry bars, and hammers.
Locate and mark workpiece bending and cutting lines, allowing for stock thickness, machine and welding shrinkage, and other component specifications.
Position or tighten braces, jacks, clamps, ropes, bolt straps, or bolt parts in position for welding or riveting.
Study engineering drawings and blueprints to determine materials requirements and task sequences.
Move parts into position, manually or with hoists or cranes.
Set up and operate fabricating machines, such as brakes, rolls, shears, flame cutters, grinders, and drill presses, to bend, cut, form, punch, drill, or otherwise form and assemble metal components.
Perform other duties as necessary and directed by the supervisor.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Must have a minimum of three years of steel fabrication experience or equivalent technical training.
Make decisions based on measurable criteria.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND COMPETENCIES:

Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy.
Make decisions based on measurable criteria.
Visualize objects in 3-dimensions from plans and drawings.
Demonstrate solid mathematic skills in basic arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and their applications.
Use and operate multiple kinds of tools and machinery.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

Work is performed indoors and outdoors with exposure to all types of weather and temperature conditions.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work easily and skillfully with hands.
Regularly lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
Ability to exert maximum muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
See and hear well (either naturally or with correction).
Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds.
Stand, stoop, kneel or crouch.
Work at heights.
Work indoors and outdoors in and near high temperatures.
