Port of Ghent boosts bulk handling with a Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald Mobile Harbor Crane

The Port of Ghent is enhancing its bulk handling capabilities with the acquisition of a Generation 6 Konecranes Gottwald ESP.7B Mobile Harbor Crane. This investment by the Euroports Group will enable the port to handle larger vessels, particularly following the opening of the new lock in Terneuzen. The crane, expected to be delivered by the end of Q1 2025, will be stationed at Terminal 850 (Sifferdok), significantly boosting the port's efficiency in handling agribulk and fertilizer markets.

The new crane features a 4-rope grab system, a 52-tonne grab curve, and a 51-meter reach, allowing it to manage bulk carriers up to Panamax class. It also has a maximum lifting capacity of 125 tonnes, making it versatile enough to handle heavy project cargo. This addition will not only increase operational speed and capacity but also enable Euroports to redistribute existing cranes to other terminals, enhancing overall efficiency and continuity across the port.

Karel Leysen, Terminal Manager at Euroports Belgium, emphasized the strategic nature of this investment in facilitating faster operations and greater volume handling at Sifferdok. Alexandros Stogianidis, Regional Sales Manager at Konecranes, highlighted the reliability and high handling rates of Konecranes Gottwald technology, which will further enhance the port's bulk handling operations.
