Three more Volvo CE sites achieve landfill-free status

Volvo Construction Equipment (CE) has announced that three more of its facilities have achieved landfill-free status, underscoring the company's commitment to sustainability. The newly certified sites are in Belley, France, and Shanghai and Jinan, China.

Achieving landfill-free status means that these facilities now divert all waste away from landfills through comprehensive waste reduction, reuse, and recycling strategies. This certification was awarded after a thorough audit by the Volvo Group Environmental Coordination Group, which verified that these sites manage all material waste streams effectively and continually improve their waste management practices in line with the waste hierarchy principles

Volvo CE's head of sustainability, Niklas Nillroth, highlighted the importance of this achievement as part of the company's broader goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions across its value chain by 2040. He emphasized that data-driven waste management practices, employee engagement, and supplier collaboration are crucial to this ongoing transformation

The sites implement various innovative waste management initiatives, such as eliminating unnecessary packaging, repurposing materials, converting waste into organic farming inputs, and using waste for heating. These efforts ensure that as much waste as possible is recycled, contributing to Volvo CE's overall recycling rate of 85% across all sites
