PAD and PADV wiper seals

PAD seals, functioning as press-in wiper seals, feature a dual-lip design incorporating an inward-facing wiper lip responsible for managing the lubrication film on the rod. During the extending stroke, the internal lip efficiently wipes away the excess fluid film from the rod, allowing the surplus fluid to return beneath the rod seal on the retracting stroke. This dual-acting wiper mechanism enhances the performance and prolongs the service life of rod sealing systems. SKF recommends the use of double-acting wiper seals in conjunction with U-cup rod seals, specifically those with a single-lip design such as the S1S profile, to facilitate the return of pressurized fluid to the hydraulic system.
In situations where pressure build-up is a concern, a snap ring may be necessary to secure the wiper seal within the housing. Additionally, PAD profiles are available with a vent in the internal lip, designated as PADV, eliminating the need for extra snap rings in most applications. The vent serves to prevent pressure accumulation on the inward-facing lip. Both PAD and PADV profiles are offered in the same metric sizes.
