Heavy Duty Field Mechanic

What you'll do:

  • Maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a variety of rental and customer equipment and tools while using a high degree of independent judgment
  • Travel to customer job sites for repair/maintenance of rental or customer-owned equipment; must maintain service vehicle in a clean and professional manner
  • Assist in the training of lower-level technicians as needed
  • Maintain paperwork/electronic documentation of work performed (work orders) in a complete and timely manner daily
  • Assist with pick-up and delivery of equipment & parts
  • Other duties assigned as needed

Requirements:

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record
  • 5+ years of experience repairing/maintaining equipment and tools
  • Advanced mechanical aptitude and working knowledge of tools
  • Extensive knowledge of construction equipment with an advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams
  • Must own tools applicable to the position
  • Superior customer service, teamwork, and verbal/written communication skills
  • Ability to frequently lift items to 45 lbs.
  • This position is deemed Safety Sensitive for purposes of United Rentals' policies and procedures. 

Here are some of the additional tasks:

  • Perform maintenance and repair of complex mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and diesel systems on a wide range of rental or customer tools and equipment, while exercising a high degree of independence of judgment.
  • Travel to the customer's workplace to repair or maintain their equipment or equipment they have rented (you will be responsible for ensuring the cleanliness and presentability of the service vehicle).
  • Participate in the training of junior technicians, as required.
  • Maintain written or electronic documentation associated with work performed (work orders) in a comprehensive manner each day within the prescribed timeframes.
  • Participate in the collection and delivery of equipment and parts.
  • Perform other tasks as required.

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • More than five years of experience in the repair or maintenance of equipment and tools.
  • Advanced mechanical skills and working knowledge of tools.
  • Thorough knowledge of construction equipment and advanced understanding of schematics and diagrams.
  • Possession of tools applicable to the position is mandatory.
  • Superior customer service, team spirit, and ability to communicate well both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to frequently lift objects weighing up to 20 kg(45 lbs).
