Purpose of the position

Bromma Americas is currently seeking a Field Service Engineer/Technician who will support our North American customer base. We are looking for a self-motivated and customer-focused team player to join our organization. As a Field Service Engineer, your primary role will be to provide hands-on technical support for Bromma equipment in the North American region. 

In this role, you will travel regularly to port cities in the US and Canada that operate our equipment. Some international travel aside from Canada will be required but will be limited. This is a great opportunity to grow in, or join for the first time, the exciting Ports and Terminals industry. You will be a key part of our success in keeping the international flow of cargo moving. 

As a part of the Bromma team, you will be working within a customer-centric organization that is focused on always exceeding the expectations of our customers. You will regularly work, and communicate with our Americas Sales organization, Engineering teams, and Product Support Specialist to resolve customer problems and communicate their individual needs back to the organization. You will also work with our other offices and teams from around the globe. 

This position will be based out of our Bromma Americas headquarters in Durham, North Carolina. (Remote Option Available) The office in NC is also our base of operations for our North American team. We also have supporting locations for the region in Miami, FL, Ottawa, KS, and Charleston, SC. 

Bromma Spreaders is a global product, and we are the industry’s most experienced manufacturer of container spreaders and lifting equipment. Since the 1960s, we have built thousands of fully automatic crane spreaders with an estimated 5000 units in operation globally. Bromma has delivered spreaders to more than 500 terminals in over 90 countries on 6 continents. Bromma’s spreaders are in use in 47 out of the top 50 ports worldwide.

Main tasks and responsibilities

  • Start-up and commission of new equipment. 
  • Perform classroom and hands-on training at customer sites. 
  • Communicate with customers to determine equipment problems. 
  • Relay design or functional problems identified in field operations to Engineering. 
  • Relay information concerning customer needs and problems to our Sales group and Product Line. 
  • Install software upgrades and make needed programming changes at customer sites. 
  • Handle warranty-related claims. 
  • Coordinate and perform field service activities and after-sales projects. 
  • Maintain good communication with customers. 
  • Complete required internal and external reporting. 
  • Program and test electronic equipment for spare parts or warranties. 
  • Perform other related after-sales duties as assigned. 
  • Travel internationally when needed. 
  • Travel is estimated at 75% of the time. (Home on most weekends) 

What you’ll need to succeed 

Education:

High School diploma is a minimum.  
Preference will be given to those with advanced technical degrees and/or training.

Experiences 

Candidates must have a strong and diverse technical background including mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems. 
Experience in the industrial, and/or large equipment will be strongly considered. 
(3-5) Years of relevant work experience.
