Hitachi Showcases Advanced Mining Equipment Technology at MINExpo INTERNATIONAL

At MINExpo INTERNATIONAL in Las Vegas, Hitachi Construction Machinery is presenting several cutting-edge technologies aimed at boosting mining efficiency and reducing operational costs. Innovations on display at booth #8527 include autonomous systems, electric-powered machinery, and advanced safety solutions.

Autonomous Haulage System (AHS)
Hitachi’s AHS integrates technologies from Hitachi Ltd. and Wenco to enable fully autonomous truck navigation, traffic negotiation, route optimization, and enhanced safety. The system reduces the need for constant communication with traffic control and can be retrofitted to Hitachi AC-3 trucks.

Advanced AC-Drive System
The EH4000AC-3 haul truck features Hitachi's proprietary AC-Drive system, delivering superior torque, acceleration, and braking. Key elements include:

IGBT inverter

Slip slide control and anti-lock braking

Pitch and side skid control

Dual Path Epicyclical Planetary wheel motor for high efficiency and easier maintenance

Aerial Angle System
The new Aerial Angle system improves operator visibility and awareness through:

A 360° camera-based peripheral vision system

Object detection with audible and visual alerts

Millimeter wave radar for collision warnings while the truck is moving

This technology enhances safety and is being integrated into autonomous dump trucks.

Trolley Truck Technology
Hitachi’s trolley system enables trucks to draw power from overhead DC lines, enhancing uphill speed, reducing diesel use, and minimizing emissions. Available for all Hitachi AC-Drive trucks, the system includes complete infrastructure and support.

Electric-powered Hydraulic Excavators
Five new electric mining excavators, adapted for 60-Hz power grids in the U.S. and Latin America, offer a sustainable and cost-efficient alternative. These units eliminate the need for engine-related consumables and components.

Next-generation Mining Excavators
Upcoming models will offer customizable engine choices (Cummins or MTU) to meet emissions regulations. They feature:

Enhanced hydraulic systems

Advanced electronic controls for fuel efficiency

Reduced operating costs through improved system design

Conclusion
“As mining companies focus on cost-efficiency and sustainability, Hitachi is committed to integrating smart technologies into its machinery,” said a company representative. “Our solutions meet the evolving demands of the mining industry worldwide.”
