Liebherr has achieved a significant breakthrough in hydrogen propulsion for agricultural and forestry applications with the introduction of its initial hydrogen engine prototypes. The H964 hydrogen engine, a compact 9-liter 4-cylinder marvel, is tailor-made for off-road purposes. Even in its developmental stages, it boasts nearly "zero" Nox and CO2 emissions, thanks to direct injection (DI) technology, which injects hydrogen directly into the combustion chamber, promising superior combustion efficiency and power density. These characteristics position hydrogen engines as a compelling alternative to diesel engines, especially for more demanding applications.

Moreover, the H964 exhibits outstanding dynamic performance and remarkable resilience against environmental challenges such as dust, dirt, and vibrations. Notably, this engine offers several advantages, including compatibility with diesel engines in terms of thermal and mechanical interfaces, reduced requirements for air and hydrogen purity, and extended maintenance intervals.
