Based on the successful M 43 C MaK medium-speed engine, the M 46 DF was developed by Caterpillar Motoren, Kiel, to meet and exceed the reliability and lifespan expectations of the M 43 C, while maintaining its class-leading position in operational efficiency.

With its clean design, the M 46 DF allows fast and easy access to systems and components, supporting the operation, service, and maintenance simplicity that MaK products are known for.

Designed to operate on both gaseous and liquid fuels (MDO/HFO), the M 46 DF meets IMO III emission limits while running in gas mode, using a small amount of ignition fuel to manage combustion. The engine was developed with attention to customer demands for safe and reliable operation across varying loads and gas qualities.
