  • Knowledgeable in both Mechanical services specifically in ACMV systems, Hydraulic systems, and thermodynamics refrigeration cycle. Competent in performing various engineering calculations (i.e. cooling load calculation, hydraulic calculation, etc.), equipment sizing (i.e. chiller, pump, cooling tower, air handler), and selection of equipment.   
  • Resourceful in continuously exploring new engineering systems and/or technology for Data Centre applications to enhance or improve overall performance, lower energy and water consumption, increase operation productivity, and reduce total cost of ownership.
  • Proposes some Electrical engineering knowledge that enabling to read and understand SLD, Electrical distribution layout, and basic equipment electrical specification requirements to liaise with the Electrical and commissioning counterpart for work deliveries.
  • Liaise with internal business units and external customers for technical requirements to translate into executable plans for implementation by consultant and/or contractor.
  • Knowledgeable in Building Management Systems/DCIM, able to understand system architect and point schedule. Experience in handling BMS/DCIM enhancement projects.
  • Design: the ability to deliver building services design such as Fire Protection Systems, Plumbing & Sanitary Systems, ACMV systems, etc. Review data center-specific design and construction drawings.
  • Construction Support: attend site meetings, review Mechanical service shop drawings and as-built drawings, and prepare RFIs, and turnover documentation. Provide technical support to the Project Manager for mechanical engineering matters such as conducting site quality checks on installed mechanical systems, identifying site defects, verification of system performance.
  • Commissioning: critic on data center commissioning scripts to ensure they accurately test all modes of operations. Witness key commissioning tests on-site
  • Engineering study: Perform technical reviews for new engineering solutions for implementation in the data center, prepare an assessment report, and make recommendations to management to adopt your proposed solutions.
  • Liaise with the Energy and Sustainability manager to examine and assess whether systems design and equipment selection are good in operating efficiency with low energy and water consumption to drive low PUE and WUE for all our DCs.
  • Knowledgeable in local building codes and regulations including Life Safety Systems.
  • Define project scope and provide technical support for information requests before and during construction phases. Work with commissioning teams to properly test and validate the installation, operation, and performance of electrical systems.
  • Conduct site inspections and work with onsite field engineers, as well as provide engineering evaluations, mechanical systems audits, and start-up as needed.
  • Collaborate with the core team to understand, develop, and update the data center mechanical designs, starting from the basis of design (BOD) to issue for construction (IFC) documents, for new data center project buildouts and major infrastructure upgrades to all levels of testing and commissioning works.
  • Perform as engineering subject matter expert to work with consultants during concept design, detailed design, procurement, bidding, SAT, delivery, and installation on site. Identify and resolve issues raised by the cross-functional teams.
  • Update and maintain the internal design specifications, drawings, and standards by the latest configurations and include all 'lessons learned' about all equipment.
  • Provide and prepare all types of reports and documents including statement of work, engineering reports, design documents, total cost of ownership analysis, drawing markup, budget, schedule, commissioning, design specification, etc.
  • Staff may be assigned to support overseas assignments.
  • Any other relevant works not stated above may be assigned.    

Skills for Success

  • Minimum 8 years of working experience with at least 5 years in Data Centre/mission critical design experience. Candidates with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in the Data Centre field with strong design and solutions experience will be considered for senior roles.   
  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or relevant discipline.
  • Good understanding of critical data center mechanical and electrical systems.
  • Experience reading and interpreting technical specifications/data sheets, design, equipment selection, and construction specifications and drawings.
  • Possess leadership and problem-solving skills.
  • Be a motivated, highly dependable individual.
  • Knowledge of large-scale mission-critical facility’s mechanical infrastructure systems. Ability and willingness to think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs with no impact on quality and reliability.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, and attention to detail, and maintain high-quality standards.
  • The ability to perform complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and present the justification to management in a high-level review.
  • Must be fluent (read/write/speak) in English. Any other language is an advantage.
  • Knowledge of building codes and regulations
  • Coordinate with project teams on matters related to Environmental Sustainability and green rating and building performances.
  • Preparation of PowerPoint for technical presentations of various kinds
