Purpose of the position
 The Plant Director is responsible for leading, coaching, planning and coordinating everyday actions in all aspects of Terminal Tractor Plant Operations in order to reach short and long-term goals, both financial and operational, defined by the business plan and forecasts.
A key responsibility is change management and developing transformational leaders across plant operations aligned with Kalmar’s Core Behaviors: Focus on the Customer, Experiment, Respect Others and Extreme Ownership.
The Plant Director owns implementing and driving a LEAN mindset and driving improvement actions in all areas of assembly and manufacturing. These areas include: quality control, safety, production engineering, procurement/logistics, finance, IT and administration.
Success will also include fostering and promoting ongoing partnerships with Union leaders and representatives to promote a positive work culture and high employee engagement.

 The Plant Director reports to the SVP Integrated Supply Chain and is a member of the Operations leadership team and participates as a member of the extended Divisional management team. 
 

Main tasks and responsibilities
Drives transformational leadership with line management to achieve improvement goals
Successfully partners with Union leaders and representatives to achieve a positive and productive work culture
Leads and distribute work within the responsibility area
Ensures a safe work environment and builds  a “safety first” culture
Delivers the unit output as per agreed budgets and forecasts as efficiently as possibly and to the lowest cost 
Defines and executes assembly operations budgets; monitor and improves costs and efficiency of production in order to optimize own resources; identifies and drives investments opportunities; classifies expenditure, and reaches quality, assembly, safety and sustainability standards
Defines, monitors and fulfills standards and targets in defined areas with delivery performance,  assembly efficiency, productivity, direct and indirect cost, quality, sustainability, safety etc.
Drives continuous improvement, (LEAN)  productivity and assembly excellence
Implements and monitors work processes and supporting tools according to Kalmar 4.0 LEAN production system and continuously developing them
Responsibility for annual and long-term profitability and competitiveness of the Plant in support of divisional and SBU targets
Contributes to and undertakes aligned activities aimed at continuous improvement of processes in the Plant  / Supply Chain
Drives employee engagement across the plant aligned with Kalmar’s core values
Ultimately accountable  for good organization of work and order in the workplace and plant (5S/6S)
Ensures the right flow of information and good communication with relevant stakeholders (divisions, functions)
Liaises with services and supporting sales, divisions and other stakeholders within the frame of responsibilities
Hires, develops and retains a high performing team, continuously uplifts  skills and builds cross functional collaboration  
Ensures compliance with all relevant policies and procedures
Participates in divisional extended management team representing operations

What you’ll need to succeed
 Education

B.A/B.S or Masters degree in Industrial, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or another relevant degree. 
LEAN trained /Certified
 Experience/Key Competencies 
Successful in driving lean transformation demonstrating both Elevate thinking and pragmatic/decisive mindset. 
Experience creating transformational leaders who embrace and execute LEAN improvement attitudes and actions
Operational Performance management: Has experience in driving performance through Tiers meeting escalation connected to daily Leadership Gemba.
Demonstrate on his/her leadership and hands-on approach, with a strong People focus and display a role model through his/her behaviors.
Demonstrated ability to drive a “safety first” culture
Solid experience leading within a labor union environment 
5 + years experience with heavy vehicle multi assembly or manufacturing
Excellent communication and negotiation skills
Strong financial and analytical ability
Demonstrated leadership experience in a diverse, multicultural setting
Excellent communication and negotiation skills, 
International experience with global stakeholders
Fluency in English: reading, writing and speaking.
