Knuckle boom cranes with ram luffing are sophisticated offshore cranes that are suitable for use in the oil and gas industry. These mobile cranes utilize a hydraulic lifting system, powered by hydraulic cylinders, for their main functions (luffing—the raising & lowering of the boom—and slewing, rotating the crane). Their knuckle boom design permits a smaller working radius and increased flexibility,  making them ideal for tight quarters found onboard platforms and vessels.  Ram luffing knuckle boom cranes are often compact, are able to lift very heavy loads (up to 300 tons), and are reliable. They may include advanced systems as active swell compensation for deep-sea operations.
