Top 10 Hydraulic and Industrial Filter Manufacturers in China for OEM Application

Shanghai Pullner Filtration Technology Co., Ltd. authorizes its publication. Many OEMs that build hydraulic equipment source filter elements and housings from China. This article covers what a hydraulic filter must do, how to specify one, and how to qualify a supplier, then profiles ten Chinese manufacturers whose own websites show hydraulic or oil filtration products. It is a starting point for supplier evaluation, not a guarantee of quality.

Why does filtration decide hydraulic reliability?

Filter makers attribute the majority of hydraulic failures to solid contamination in the fluid, which wears pumps, valves, and cylinders. Filtration sets the cleanliness level components operate in, and component makers often specify a required cleanliness.

Cleanliness is usually reported to ISO 4406, which converts counts of particles of 4, 6, and 14 µm and larger per milliliter into a three-number code such as 18/16/13. A lower code means cleaner oil.

What filter types and selection criteria matter?

Filters sit in four main positions:

  • Suction filters sit before the pump and are usually coarse strainers, because a high pressure drop at the inlet can cause cavitation.

  • Pressure-line filters sit after the pump to protect servo and proportional valves and other sensitive components. Housings and elements must withstand peak system pressure.

  • Return-line filters clean oil before it reaches the reservoir and capture particles the system generates.

  • Offline (kidney-loop) filtration uses its own motor, pump, and filter, often a portable cart or purifier, and can clean the reservoir while the machine is idle.

When comparing elements, look at:

  • Filtration rating and beta ratio. ISO 16889 multi-pass testing gives a beta ratio, βx(c), the number of particles of size x and larger upstream divided by the number downstream. A β of 200 means 99.5% capture at that size; a β of 1000 means 99.9%. A "nominal" micron rating without test data is not comparable.

  • Pressure drop and flow. Clean and dirty pressure drop at the system's flow and viscosity and the bypass valve setting.

  • Dirt-holding capacity, also measured in the ISO 16889 test, which drives service intervals.

  • Collapse or burst pressure rating (ISO 2941).

  • Fluid and temperature compatibility of media and seals with mineral oil, water-glycol, phosphate ester, or other synthetic fluids (ISO 2943).

  • Clogging indicators, which signal a rising pressure drop before the bypass valve opens and unfiltered oil passes the element.

A note on cross-reference elements

Many Chinese suppliers sell elements described as replacements for HYDAC, Parker, Pall, or Donaldson part numbers. Treat them as compatible replacements that still need validation. Matching dimensions and seals does not establish the same filtration efficiency, pressure drop, flow capacity, fluid compatibility, or collapse strength. Ask for multi-pass test data on the specific element and test it in your system.

How we chose these ten

We kept only Chinese companies whose own website shows hydraulic, lube, or fuel oil filtration products. For each, we checked the official site, a relevant product page, and the stated location and noted outdated or inconsistent certification claims. Company figures are as stated by each company and were not independently audited. The list is unranked and in no particular order, and inclusion is not an endorsement by WHYPS. Disclosure: Pullner contributed to this article and is listed first.

The ten manufacturers

1. Pullner (Shanghai Pullner Filtration Technology Co., Ltd.)

  • Location: Songjiang, Shanghai

  • Hydraulic-relevant products: cleanable stainless steel filter cartridges in pleated mesh, sintered fiber felt, sintered multilayer mesh, sintered powder, and wedge wire, rated from 0.5 to 150 µm depending on type. Pullner lists hydraulic and pneumatic circuits and fuel oil among their applications. As an industrial filter manufacturer, its core range is water and process filtration.

  • Stated approvals (source): Pullner supplied a Saudi Aramco letter dated 22 September 2021 classing its Shanghai Songjiang plant as "Manufacturing Plant Approved with Limitation"; the product scope is not specified publicly.

  • Notes for buyers: According to Pullner, it runs a 15,200 m² factory in Shanghai with 30+ production lines, makes 4,000+ elements a day, and verifies materials by PMI and SEM. Ask for ISO 16889 data before using these elements in a hydraulic circuit, and confirm which products the Aramco approval covers.

An OEM supplier qualification checklist

  1. Certificates: current ISO 9001 (and IATF 16949 for automotive work), with scope covering the products you buy. Check certificates with the issuing body.

  2. Test data: ISO 16889 multi-pass reports for the exact element, plus ISO 2941 collapse and ISO 3968 differential pressure versus flow results.

  3. Materials: media, end caps, seals, and adhesives, with compatibility for your fluid and temperature range.

  4. Process control: incoming inspection, batch traceability, and integrity testing (ISO 2942 bubble point).

  5. Cross-references: written confirmation of what was compared and what was not.

  6. Capacity: stated output and lead times, confirmed by audit or video tour.

  7. Change control: notice before media, supplier or design changes.

How should you validate performance before procurement?

Start with samples and the supplier's test reports, then repeat key tests at an independent lab with an ISO 16889 test bench. Run a field trial with ISO 4406 particle counts before and after installation, and compare pressure drop and service life with the incumbent element. Approve each part number separately: one good result does not qualify a whole catalog.

China's hydraulic filter suppliers range from specialist hydraulic manufacturers to general filtration companies with oil and hydraulic lines. Websites and certificates show what a supplier claims, not how an element performs in your circuit. Shortlist on documented products and current certificates, then qualify each element on test data, fluid compatibility and field results.
