CAT 6030 Giant Caterpillar Excavator Starts Works At Mountsorrel
The 300-tonne caterpillar excavator is the largest machine of its kind used in UK quarry. The new CAT 6030 approximately weighs 300 tons and generates power of 1500 horsepower. At the time of delivery Cat, 6030 was delivered in sections on 12 separate trucks and engineers from Caterpillar took almost 4 weeks to assemble. Mountsorrel is one of the largest granite quarries in Europe and a major producer of high-quality aggregates for asphalt and concrete. The 6030 excavator is second here at Mountsorrel and the two are the largest of their kind in operation in a UK quarry.
