Job Summary

Drive one or more types of power construction equipment (i.e., track loader, dozer, backhoe, excavator, scraper, grader, side boom, boring machine, RT Extended boom forklift, etc.) to remove, transport, and/or grade material.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive gasoline, diesel, pneumatic, or electrically powered equipment to relocate objects or material as specified by a project. Assemble and maintain compressors and pumps; control levers and pedals on equipment assigned to lower bucket or scoop up material and to swing, lift, or dump material; control hand wheels and press foot pedals to power machines and manage attachments, like blades, buckets, scrapers, and swing booms. Do light maintenance work like cleaning, greasing, and oiling equipment.
  • Record maintenance logs on assigned equipment. Conduct daily checks of equipment and record findings on the daily log.
  • Coordinated machine operations with other work, placing or relocating loads as directed by hand or audio signals from the crew. Load dirt, rocks, equipment, or other materials and transport them with trucks, crawler tractors, shovels, graders, or comparable equipment. Monitor fuel supplies on sites to maintain proper supply levels. Operate and guide equipment with blades in repeated passes over areas to be worked to remove topsoil, vegetation, or rocks or to spread and level terrain or ground.
  • Calculate slopes and grades of materials.  Have a working knowledge of Trenching and excavating requirements and regulations.
  • Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.  Identify underground services, such as pipes or wires, before starting work.
  •  Understand and apply Red Tag procedures about equipment in a safe way.
