Hydraulic models are commonly used tools to investigate various environmental issues such as flood risk, fluvial geomorphology, and habitat creation. Many environmental professionals are often tasked with commissioning hydraulic modelling or interpreting results without a solid background in the subject.

This course is designed to demystify hydraulic modelling for non-modellers. It will equip delegates with the skills to specify an appropriate modelling approach and better understand the assumptions behind models when interpreting the results.

Course Objectives:
Understand the different types of hydraulic modelling available

Learn the underlying assumptions of hydraulic models

Identify when different model types are suitable and understand their limitations

Know how to specify models effectively during the tendering process

Gain appreciation for model scale and uncertainty

The course structure includes presentations, group discussions, and practical worked examples.
