Reservoir Accessories

A hydraulic reservoir is more than a fluid storage tank. It's an integral part of the overall hydraulic system. Reservoir accessories are essential in maintaining fluid quality, system performance, and reliability. Here's a closer look at these important components:

1. Breathers:

Function: Breathers allow air to enter and exit the reservoir as fluid levels change due to cylinder movement.
Importance:
Prevent vacuum formation in the reservoir that can damage pumps.
Filter incoming air to prevent entry of contaminants into the hydraulic system.
Desiccant breathers absorb moisture from the incoming air thus reducing the corrosion and fluid degradation risk.

2. Fillers and Filler Breathers:

Role: They serve as a convenient filling point for the hydraulic fluid in the reservoir and often come with a breather function.
Significance:
Incorporate strainers to remove lumps during filling.
Some of them have locking features for safety.

3. Level Indicators:

Function: To offer a visual sign indicating the fluid level in the reservoir.
Importance:
Helps in keeping track of fluid levels, thereby avoiding pump cavitation due to low fluid.
As sight glasses, dipsticks, or electronic level sensors.

4. Temperature Gauges:

Function: Measures hydraulic fluid temperature.
Importance:
High temperatures can break down hydraulic fluid and damage seals.
Assist in identifying potential cooling system problems.
