Danfoss Helps Propelling the World's Biggest Crane Ship
Danfoss is the industry's most reliable name. Danfoss engineers technologies that enable the world of tomorrow to do more with less. Sleipner is being equipped with Danfoss drives, set to ensure that the counterbalance water is pumped to the back of the crane ship as a counterweight when the cranes are in operation. Additionally, Danfoss will supply drives for 12 sets of position mooring winches and provide a turnkey solution that includes project management, engineering, documentation, and delivery of custom-built enclosed drives and transformers.

"This is the initial move towards gaining more market share in this attractive marine market. The pipeline continues growing and with this win, we are in a good position to achieve our goals despite the market situation remaining challenging,"
— Søren Kvorning, Head of Asia, Pacific and India Area, Danfoss Drives.

Sleipnir will be equipped with two 10,000 MT cranes and will be capable of performing various ultra-heavy lifts, some exceeding 15,000 MT. The vessel will enable the installation of larger modules than what current equipment can handle.

Heading for the Mediterranean and the North Sea
When Sleipner becomes operational in 2019, it will head for its first contracted assignments. The first contract is with Noble Energy Mediterranean, Ltd. for transportation and installation services associated with the Leviathan production platform in the Mediterranean Sea. The second transport and installation contract was awarded by Maersk Oil for the new production and living quarters platforms as part of their Tyra Future project.

The partners behind the Tyra field—Maersk Oil and the Danish Underground Consortium (DUC)—recently agreed on a DKK 21 billion plan to rebuild and expand Tyra, marking the largest investment in the Danish sector of the North Sea.
