Job Description:
Purpose :
               Oversee the surveying operations within the designated business unit.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership and Direction

  • Receive broad guidance from senior-level management on overall key objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters. Manage personnel and processes to ensure effective execution, reviewing staff work for quality assurance.
  • Provide oversight and direction for the department or business unit, including strategy, budgeting, staffing, and deliverables.
    Operational and Company Level
  • Assist in marketing the firm’s capabilities to attract new clients and enhance relationships with existing clients. Collaborate with internal departments to meet project requirements. Serve as a technical advisor, providing senior-level input and evaluation on projects.
    Execution of Work
  • Meet with prospective clients, prepare proposals, and establish budgets and schedules. Maintain close communication with clients to address project questions and concerns. Oversee all surveying activities, including reviewing project changes, pending alterations, and additional work requests. Supervise survey project personnel to ensure adherence to professional standards.
  • Define the scope of complex projects, develop plans, and monitor progress toward deliverable schedules. Compile project status reports and review job cost sheets. Ensure projects stay within budget allocation. Collect outstanding payments from clients.
  • Coordinate with internal departments to meet project requirements. Formulate marketing presentations and attend meetings to secure repeat business and identify new clients. Supervise Project Managers when necessary.

Education, Work Experience, Licensure/Certifications, and Technical Requirements;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Land Surveying or related field preferred.
  • Professional Land Surveying registration.
  • Ten or more (10+) years of land surveying or related land development experience, including a minimum of two (2) years of project management experience.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Carlson principles.
  • Must be a licensed surveyor in New York.
  • Experience managing a Survey Department is preferred.
  • Strong Survey Business Acumen: Prepare Proposals, RFP responses, and Desire to pursue Business Development - Survey Accounting (includes billing, project reports, and collections).
  • Strong Local Jurisdictional Knowledge for Plat preparation and approval.

Physical Demands and Working Environment;

  • Primarily indoor professional office environment with potential exposure to light variations, noise, fumes, odors, and traffic.
  • Mobility within an office environment, and frequent use of standard office equipment.
  • Partly outdoor work environment with potential exposure to adverse weather conditions, varying temperatures, excessive noise, and/or hazards.
  • Mobility around a job/construction site, involves walking, bending, crawling, climbing, squatting, or kneeling, and wearing required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Frequent and prolonged use of data collection equipment and/or drones, requiring walking through the assigned study area for several hours.
  • Primarily local travel during the business day, with some potential for out-of-area and overnight travel based on business needs.
  • Occasional lifting or carrying up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional pushing or pulling up to 20 pounds.
  • Occasional reaching outward or above the shoulder.
