This opening is for a Design Engineer in the Wheeled Products Hydraulic Installation team focused on Off-Highway Trucks.  Hydraulic Installation comprises the placement and retention of hydraulic components (pumps, motors, valves, cylinders, etc.) and the designing of connections between these components to create a fully functional hydraulic system.

As a Design Engineer at Caterpillar, you will have an opportunity to direct and participate in the design and development of new product concepts and complex engineering projects for release to production in a manner that ensures products provide superior performance, durability, quality, and serviceability. Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot hydraulic systems, plus 6 Sigma experience and familiarity are desirable proficiencies.

What you will do:

Researching new materials and competitive products. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance. Overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.
Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating them into detailed design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components.
Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
Requires a degree in an accredited Engineering, Computer Science, or Materials Science curriculum.

• Monitors the processes and procedures of a complex product design to ensure functional requirements are met.
• Evaluate feedback from customers and consult on functional weaknesses.
• Controls design and development costs of a proposed product through effective resource coordination.

Product Design and Development :
• Builds three-dimensional models with basic materials.
• Communicate with professionals to understand various requirements of product design.
• Tests and evaluates alternative means of production being considered for use.
• Uses automated tools to design or modify the design of a product.
• Assists in building a complex prototype of the product.
