Job Description

As a Workshop Engineer, his main role will be within an office-based position at Fugro in the Singapore office. He will serve as the primary support contact for the mechanical aspects of all mobile / fixed drilling equipment. He will play a pivotal role in the planning and budgeting for preventive maintenance and upgrades, which will include liaising between many internal and external departments. Additionally, he will be responsible for supervising routine mechanical tasks carried out by rig mechanics on the ships.

Day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Assist with the preparation and planning for the mechanical equipment inspection and testing that will be carried out throughout the year in the workshop facility.
  • Assist the equipment resource manager with the planning and implementation of the upgrades relating to equipment including modification works.
  • Participate and execute mobilization activities of mechanical equipment, including the development of procedures, and task plans, as instructed.
  • Plan and arrange contractors for repairs & maintenance and assigned activities on the vessel/workshop and maintain machines, equipment, and tools, as assigned by the equipment resource manager.
  • Effectively remotely supervise the rig mechanics onboard vessels ensuring that all repair and maintenance including preventive maintenance for offshore drill rigs and geotechnical equipment on the vessels is carried out timely and effectively.
  • Carry out periodical inspections of the geotechnical equipment onboard the ships and in the Warehouse to ensure the running and safety of the plant.
  • Identify in advance the need for additional support from contractors for critical Mobilisation / Repair activities concerning mechanical equipment such as Winches, Power packs, etc.
  • Ensure maintenance records, certification, and spare part information of the geotechnical equipment is filed in the planned maintenance system and available for future referral.
  • Develop a comprehensive spare package for the Geotech equipment and effectively stock control it during ongoing operations; equipment to be topped and re-ordered when required.
  • Ensure that all work performed complies with the requirements of the Project and is carried out by the rules and the methods of the Company.
  • Ensure that all aspects of project Safety, Health & Quality remain prioritized at the work sites.
  • Stand in as the emergency point of contact to support the field staff in troubleshooting issues on mechanical and hydraulic equipment.
  • Ensure spares & consumables for the geotechnical equipment required on top of vessel standard consumables are defined and updated in STAR PMS onboard Fugro-managed / chartered vessels for mechanical equipment.
  • Supporting activities and tasks delegated by the equipment resource manager in equipment maintenance & reliability audit requirements.

About You

The Workshop Engineer will be a qualified and experienced Mechanical Engineer with detailed operational and maintenance knowledge of static & rotating mechanical (including high-pressure hydraulic & Pneumatic) systems. He would have a minimum of 8 years of hands-on experience in servicing hydraulic and mechanical equipment used in the Marine & Offshore industry, of which a minimum of 3 years of experience in working on hydraulic equipment used on offshore facilities such as MODUs and rigs.  The role is responsible for the day-to-day supervision of the Offshore Geotechnical drilling and Geophysical mechanical equipment’s maintenance. The role supports operational sites (vessels with hydraulic and mechanical equipment) with advice and direction whilst maximizing the availability of plant and equipment through maintenance-based planning and organization.
