PLUMBER

Primary Purpose:

Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, and drainage systems, according to specifications and plumbing codes.

Typical Duties:

Studies building plans and working drawings to determine work aids required and sequence of installations. Inspects structure to ascertain obstructions to be avoided to prevent weakening of structure resulting from installation of pipe. Locates and marks the position of pipe and pipe connections and passage holes for pipes in walls and floors, using ruler, spirit level, and plumb bob. Cuts openings in walls & floors to accommodate pipe and pipe fittings, using hand tools and power tools. Cuts and threads pipe, using pipe cutters, cutting torch, and pipe­ threading machine. Assembles and installs valves, pipe fittings, and pipes composed of metals, such as iron, steel, brass, and lead, and non-metals, such as glass, vitrified clay, and plastic, using hand tools and power tools. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and calks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether the system is leaking. Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures, such as sinks, commodes, bathtubs, water heaters, hot water tanks, and water softeners. May weld holding fixtures to steel structural members.

Requirements:

Workers should be able to: Work within precise limits or standards of accuracy; Make decisions based on measurable criteria; and visualize objects in three­ dimensions from plans and drawings. Physically, workers must be able to: Work easily and skillfully with hands; Lift and carry objects weighing up to 150 pounds; See well (either naturally or with correction); Climb and maintain balance on high ladders and scaffolds; and stand, stoop, kneel, or crouch; Completion of apprenticeship program is required. Usually required to be licensed.

PIPEFITTER

Primary Purpose:

Lays out, fabricates, assembles, installs, and maintains pipe and piping systems, fixtures, and equipment for steam, hot water, heating, cooling, lubricating, sprinkling, and industrial processing systems.

Typical Duties:

Select the type and size of pipe and related materials according to job specifications. Inspect worksites to determine the presence of obstructions and to ascertain that holes will not cause structural weakness. Plans sequence of installation to avoid obstructions and activities of other construction workers. Cuts pipe, using a hacksaw, pipe cutters, hammer & chisel, cutting torch, and pipe cutting machine. Threads pipe, using a threading machine, ends pipe by hand or with pipe-bending machine. Assembles and installs a variety of metal and nonmetal pipe and pipe fittings, including those made of brass, copper, lead, glass, and plastic. Joins piping using threaded, chalked, wiped, soldered, brazed, fused, or cemented joints.

Secures pipes to structure with clamps, brackets, and hangers, using hand tools. Installs & maintains refrigeration and air-conditioning systems including compressors, pumps, meters, pneumatic and hydraulic controls, and piping. Tests piping system for leaks by increasing pressure in pipes and observing gauges attached to pipes for indications of leaks. May weld holding fixtures to structural steel members.

To obtain Insurance Benefits you must be with the Company between 1- 31 days & have all necessary forms completed and turned into the office. Insurance benefits start the first of the following month after qualifying. Pension Benefits begin immediately upon hire, however, you must have your paperwork turned in to Zions Direct and have an account number in order to have deposits made.

All employee driving records will be scrutinized. Any employee with a DUI within the last 3 years will not operate any Company Motor Vehicles. To operate Company Equipment on the job site, employees must have a valid driver's license. The use of alcohol or controlled substances is forbidden on job sites and in Company Vehicles. All new hires are subject to a 90-day probation period. The employee/Employer relationship is known as "Employment-At-Will." This means that you are not required to work for J & S Mechanical for any set period. Employees may terminate their relationship with J & S Mechanical at any time and for any reason or no reason, and J & S Mechanical has equal right to terminate the employment relationship at any time, for any reason. It is understood that while working for J & S Mechanical, you will not be employed by another firm, organization, or entity.
