Provides skilled mechanical maintenance, repair, and modification of heavy and light vehicles and equipment in a Parks Canada Agency field unit or service center.

Intent of the process
The immediate need is to fill a one-year term vacancy in Rogers Pass, BC. However, a qualified list may also be established to fill future needs- indeterminate, term, acting throughout the Highway Operations Unit.

OCCUPATIONAL CERTIFICATION
Heavy Equipment Technician OR Truck and Transport Mechanic Certified Journeyperson

EXPERIENCE
EX1: Experience in the maintenance and repair of heavy-duty trucks and equipment.
EX2: Experience in the repair of diesel- and gas-powered engines including internal combustion engines, transmissions, suspensions, electrical, steering, braking, and drive systems.
EX3: Experience in the maintenance and repair of hydraulic systems
EX4: Experience in the maintenance and repair of air brake systems

K1: Knowledge of preventative maintenance principles, procedures, and regulations.
K2: Knowledge of troubleshooting and diagnostic techniques.

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS:
AQ1: Possession and maintenance of a class 1, 2, or class 3 driver’s license

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
This position requires the incumbent to:
• Conduct repetitive tasks;
• Make moderate* to heavy** physical efforts, including lifting supplies, tools, and equipment and standing for prolonged periods.

* Moderate is defined as lifting 50 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 25 lbs.
** Heavy is defined as lifting 100 lbs maximum with frequent lifting/carrying up to 50 lbs.

Physical Effort:
The work requires working in awkward or confined positions in and under equipment with regular requirements to manipulate heavy objects such as tires, transmissions, transfer boxes, and vehicle attachments. The work requires pulling, pushing, bending, lifting, moving, manipulating, and positioning heavy and awkward components and assemblies either by hand or using devices such as slings and other supports. Many objects/components will weigh more than 25 kilograms.

• Possession of a valid class 5 driver's license or equivalent
• Willingness to wear identifier clothing and personal protective equipment;
• Willingness to travel and/or work in a variety of weather conditions and terrain for extended periods;
• Willingness to work irregular hours, overtime, weekends and/or statutory holidays, provincial/territorial holidays and call back or standby duty;
• Candidates may be required to undergo and meet the requirements for a medical examination/pre-employment medical examinations and periodic medical checks.
